Dubai International Airport (DXB) has once again secured its position as the world’s busiest airport for international passenger traffic, maintaining its global leadership in aviation as travel demand continues to surge worldwide. According to preliminary figures released by Airports Council International (ACI), DXB handled approximately 95.2 million international passengers in 2025, marking another record-breaking year for the emirate’s flagship airport.
The achievement reinforces Dubai’s role as one of the most important aviation gateways connecting Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
Record Passenger Traffic in 2025
Dubai International Airport welcomed 95.2 million passengers during 2025, representing a 3.1% increase compared to the previous year. The figure not only solidified DXB’s position as the world’s leading international hub but also ranked it as the second-busiest airport globally for total passenger traffic, behind only Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
The airport’s continued growth reflects strong demand for tourism, business travel, and global connectivity through Dubai.
Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, described the performance as evidence that record traffic levels have become part of the airport’s operating reality rather than an exception.
Dubai Leads Global International Travel Rankings
ACI’s 2025 international passenger rankings placed Dubai ahead of several major global hubs:
- Dubai International Airport (DXB) – 95.2 million passengers
- London Heathrow Airport (LHR) – 79.9 million passengers
- Incheon International Airport (ICN) – 73.6 million passengers
- Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) – 69.4 million passengers
- Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) – 68.8 million passengers
These rankings highlight Dubai’s continued dominance in long-haul international travel and transit operations.
Emirates and Tourism Continue Driving Growth
Much of DXB’s success is linked to the expansion of Emirates Airline, which uses Dubai as its primary global hub. The airline’s extensive international network continues attracting millions of connecting passengers each year.
Dubai’s tourism sector also played a major role in the airport’s performance. The emirate welcomed approximately 19.6 million international visitors during 2025, marking another record year for tourism and supporting continued growth in passenger traffic.
The largest source markets for DXB included:

- Saudi Arabia
- United Kingdom
Meanwhile, countries such as China, Egypt, and Italy recorded some of the fastest growth rates in passenger traffic.
Operating Near Capacity
Despite its success, Dubai International Airport is approaching its operational limits.
DXB currently handles flights from more than 100 airlines serving over 270 destinations worldwide. Airport executives have acknowledged that passenger volumes are increasingly pushing the facility close to its maximum capacity.
To address future demand, Dubai is investing heavily in the expansion of Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC), which is expected to eventually replace DXB as the city’s primary aviation hub.
The Future: Al Maktoum International Airport
Dubai has approved a massive expansion project worth approximately $35 billion for Al Maktoum International Airport. Once completed, the new airport is expected to become the largest in the world, with a projected capacity of up to 260 million passengers annually.
Officials expect major operations to transition from DXB to DWC by the early 2030s, allowing Dubai to accommodate long-term growth in global air travel.
